Bath race course is regularly used as a stepping stone to bigger and better things for horses in their juvenile years. A steady uphill finish provides a good test of a horses ability. Bath remains the only race course in Britain that does not have a watering system so you can expect to find some of the firmest ground anyway during dry periods.

Horses drawn high (away from the inside rail) have a preference based on statistics which is not what would be expected considering shorter distances at Bath are run on a left handed dog leg which in theory should favour horses on the inside rail. Statistically this is not the case.
