Doncaster

Doncaster – home to one of the ‘classics’ in the St Leger is also one of Britain’s oldest race courses dating back to the 16th century. It was recently redeveloped in 2005 although the race course itself remains one of the fairest in the country – almost flat throughout with only a moderate draw bias over shorter distances. The St Leger takes place in September each year over a distance of 1 miles and 6 furlongs with the other big race held at Doncaster being the Doncaster Cup – another staying race (Group 2) with a distance of 2 miles and 2 furlongs. Both are held during the 4 day St-Leger meeting.

Draw Bias

Doncaster is a flat race course that suits galloping horses - there is an indication over shorter distances that a high draw is beneficial - although probably more important is a horse with a nice stride that gets into a decent rhythm.
