Ripon

Ripon offers flat racing during the flat racing season – March to October – around a right-handed 1 mile 5 furlong oval. The track is considered a sharp track that suits more agile horses. There is a 5 furlong run in – although the course features several undulations that doesn’t give galloping horses a great chance to use their stride. Tight turns and undulations with a definite advantage to horses that lead can offer distinct advantages. Notable races throughout the year include a Two Year Old Trophy (Listed Race) – not regarded as one of the leading 2 year old trophy races throughout the season – but a Listed race nonetheless which is well contested. Racing in Ripon has taken place for almost 300 years – although in various locations before settling at Boroughbridge Road in the early 1900’s.
