York

York – often referred to as the Knavesmire – is one of the most well regarded racecourses in the UK on almost every level. A very flat racecourse with sweeping turns it is considered a fair racecourse to most horses. There is a slight draw bias that can favour high drawn horses, although front runners and horses that race prominently are considered to have a bigger advantage. Racing has taken place at York for over 300 years and in general the viewing, facilities, ticket prices and quality of racing make York a favourite destination for many owners, trainers, jockeys, horses and spectators. The highlight of the racing calendar is the Ebor festival that features the Ebor Handicap – a heritage handicap with over £150,000 on offer to the winner. In addition York is home to 3 Group 1 races; Juddmonte International Stakes; Darley Yorkshire Oaks and the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes – all held during the prestigious Ebor festival. In addition there are a number of Group 2’s (including the Gimcrack and Lowther Stakes) as well as a host of Group 3 and Listed races throughout the year.
